Our history of achievements
- November 2007: SUFA and other African leaders in the UK are invited by Queen Elizabeth II to a reception at Buckingham Palace, London, to mark her visit to Uganda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
- November 2007: SUFA forms a partnership with ONG Fides, Cote D'Ivoire. Our new partner works to improve access to education, health and wellbeing, and provide opportunities for income generation, especially among young people and families affected by the recent conflict.
- September 2007: Chelsea FC chooses SUFA as one of its supported charities under the Creating Chances programme.
- August 2007: Thanks to generous donations from supporters, we begin building our dedicated Maison de l'Enfance (Children's Centre) in Benin.
- July 2007: SUFA forms a partnership with The Ark Foundation in Ghana. Our partner works to promote and protect the rights of young people, women and other disadvantaged groups.
- May 2007: SUFA is a key contributor at the Charity Law Association For the Public Benefit Conference. The Conference, which was organised for charity lawyers, academics and charity professionals, brought more than 200 delegates together to discuss the new public benefit requirements under the UK Charities Act 2006.
- January 2007: SUFA forms a partnership with the Matangini Project, which raises money to provide clean water for primary schools in East Africa.
- December 2006: We launch our online SUFA Shop, so now you can buy gifts for everyone at the click of your mouse.
- September 2006: The launch of our exciting Ashanti 2006-07 Gift Catalogue, which is packed with treats for you and your loved ones.
- August 2006: Nick Marple becomes SUFA's first Patron.
- April 2006: SUFA forms a partnership with Safe Alternatives for Youth in Uganda and starts raising funds for the Youth Drop-in Centre Project.
- January 2006: SUFA Founder and Director Elsie Nemlin wins an UnLtd Level 2 Millennium Award in recognition of her unique vision and potential.
- May 2006: Long-standing supporter Arsenal Football Club donates balls, training equipment and first team kits, which are sent to impoverished children in Benin and Uganda.
- January 2006: SUFA launches the Skills Exchange Project, which connects community groups in Africa with skilled volunteers and interns from the North.
- 6 October 2005: SUFA's first Maison de L'Enfance (Children's Centre) opens in Benin, West Africa.
- 2 July 2005: After many months of intensive campaigning, SUFA activists join the Make Poverty History Rally in Edinburgh to demand trade justice, debt cancellation, and more and better aid for the world's poorest countries. Visit our G8 Rally photo gallery.
- 28 June 2005: About 60 SUFA supporters, including 50 young African Britons, attend a special event to present our Make Poverty History In Africa Petition at the House of Commons. Visit our G8 Petition photo gallery.
- 27 June 2005: Seventy-one young people attend a SUFA workshop in London to further their understanding of Africa's debt crisis, Fair Trade, aid and the Make Poverty History campaign.
- 11 March 2005: We launch our Child Sponsorship Scheme, to enable SUFA donors to support vulnerable children in Benin, West Africa.
- 28 January 2005: SUFA forms a partnership with ESAM in Benin and starts raising funds for the Children's Centres Project (Maison de L'Enfance Project).
- 30 November 2004: SUFA delegates attend the UK Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Civil Society Conference on the Commission for Africa in Cardiff.
- 11 October 2004: Elsie Nemlin and other SUFA representatives attend Prime Minister Tony Blair's reception for Africans in the Diaspora.
- July 2004: SUFA researches and publishes our Report on Child Slavery in Africa.
- 19 August 2003: Elsie Nemlin founds Stand Up For Africa.
