About us

Stand Up For Africa (SUFA) is a UK-based, African-led charity working with Africans and friends of Africa to support community-led development projects in Africa.

Our vision

A world where Africa is realising its full potential. We believe African-led initiatives are the key to realising our vision.

Our mission

We support community-led projects in Africa that seek to:

  • Improve access to education.
  • Improve health and wellbeing.
  • Promote and protect the rights of children, young people and women.
  • Provide opportunities for income generation.

How we work

We engage with Africans, especially young Africans in the Diaspora, and friends of Africa worldwide to build awareness of development issues, to raise funds to support our projects, and to provide opportunities to get involved and Stand Up!

Where we work

Between 2008 and 2012, we are supporting development projects in Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda.

We also encourage and support fundraising activities, including our volunteer School Support Groups, who raise awareness and money to support our development projects. Our Skills Exchange Project connects community groups in Africa with volunteers and interns worldwide.

Governance

Stand Up For Africa (SUFA) was registered as a charity in February 2004 and as a company limited by guarantee in September 2003. The Company Directors form the charity's Board of Trustees. The Board, which meets quarterly in London, is responsible for the overall governance of the charity, including the allocation of funding grants to our project partners in Africa.
