LIDEFO
Volunteer Magda teaching under a tree SUFA is closely affiliated with The Liberty Development Foundation (LIDEFO), which is a community based organisation established in 2002 in the Kasese district of western Uganda.
The Liberty CollegeThis is a not for profit vocational training centre, which facilitates skills development among the disadvantaged and improve their social and economic status, thereby promoting self-reliance. The College is currently operating on a rented property, with only two small classrooms and an outside teaching area under a tree for its 110 students, so there is a fundamental need to relocate it to its own premises. This project will help many students in Kasese to learn a skill and provide them with opportunities they never thought possible. The Women and Youth Micro Enterprise Development GroupThe project was founded in 2007 and the main objective is to empower the women and youth within the community to acquire training and education in life skills and business operations, which would consecutively enable income generation at the individual and household level. The Group attends weekly workshops to gain business understanding and enhance their life skills. The Beekeeping ProjectLIDEFO promotes income generation by providing underprivileged
individuals with the training to undertake beekeeping and honey processing,
which can lead to improved social and economic status. The organisation
seeks to ensure that all people, particularly those with the fewest
resources, have the opportunity to take up the beekeeping initiative,
as it can be a sustainable source of income. The overall objective is
to provide villagers with the skills and equipment to work their way
out of poverty marketing honey and other bee products. Scholarship ProgramAs part of the Liberty College ’s commitment to serving students
from disadvantaged backgrounds, a scholarship program for those in needs
has been introduced. The program is made possible by external donors
sponsoring a student’s fees. A new appeal for a new termThe college has three small classrooms and is currently operating on
rented premises. With 110 students and a number increasing daily, it
is crucial that we move to a sustainable location. With funding from
a number of supporters, we have secured a land and finished the school’s
foundations.
